Question Green dots on black screen

Hi folks, I have recently set up a new htpc. The hard is as follows:

Ryzen 3600
Asus B450 mobo
16gb patriot 3200 ram
Asus rx 2060
Corsair tx550w

Display is an Epson Tw9400 projector

Problem:

I have noticed when there is a black screen (for example at the start of a movie using kodi) there is loads of tiny green dots displayed.

I ran furmark and noticed nothing
No crashes etc. It mostly seems to be when the screen is black.

Any ideas what it could be? Two things I am going to try today are another hdmi lead and reinstalling gpu drivers.
Everything in the machine is running cool. I haven't over clocked at all.

It's annoying and I'm hoping it isn't the gpu as returns right now would be a nightmare. I will try and take a screenshot later.

Does it happen on a normal monitor as well?

Re: Green dots on black screen

I have only ever account that type of thing once and turned out to be the graphics card was faulty however when I was researching my original problem a few years ago it was suggested it could just be the cable

Re: Green dots on black screen

If you do an in-game screenshot and nothing is showing up then it isn't the GPU.

Have you got anything else you can run though the projector to make sure it isn't that?

Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: Green dots on black screen

I agree with Terbinator, taking a screenshot would be a good diagnostic test, but it doesn't necessarily rule out the hardware being faulty.

Are the pixels static or do they move?

Edit: If you can. try different display interfaces e.g. HDMI/DisplayPort. And try all of the physical ports available if possible.

Re: Green dots on black screen

So I tried a different device (which means the same main cable going from receiver to projector, same display, etc - no dots.

also, the dots started coming up red and green. And only after the computer had been doing something for a while (and had 'warmed up'). In the end, I was satisfied that it seemed to be the graphics card at fault.

I have now sent it back to CCL. But no idea how long I will need to wait for a refund. It also means I no longer have a computer to use as the Ryzen 3600 doesn't have the capability to use the B450 mobos HDMI output. Which is a shame! I wish I had bought on Amazon now as they would have refunded it the moment I posted it back to them.

A shame about the graphics card but as you have just mentioned that's one reason I buy from Amazon now.

Re: Green dots on black screen

I've emailed ccl to see how long it will take. Having the second PC was vital given we are both here working from home now. One PC ain't cutting it!

Re: Green dots on black screen

To me it sounds like a display controller fault; if so it's the right decision to return the card.

Did you try using all of the ports on the card to check it wasn't just one affected? Even though that would still be a fault, it would have been useful to know in order to tell the RMA team who may test it.

Re: Green dots on black screen

I didn't have the ability to check the display ports or mini display ports due to pc being connected to my receiver using an hdmi lead. I don't have any adaptors. I did tell them I had only used the hdmi port though.
